#fitMKE Pizza a la Streetza

This weekend I finally got around to picking up a new #fitmke pizza from Streetza Pizza. (I know, what took me so long? It’s named after us and everything!) Anyway, after an afternoon of ice skating at Red Arrow Park with my family, we heard the Streetza truck was parked just down the block so we decided to stop by on our way home. In addition to a regular pepperoni and sausage pizza for my husband and kids, I ordered a take-and-bake spinach and mushroom pizza from their new #fitmke menu for myself. (Funny thing, they had no interest in eating low-cal pizza like I did.)

According to the Streetza website, each slice of the pizza I ordered is only 155 calories. A slice is 1/6 of a pizza and before you go thinking that 1/6 is super small let me set you straight: This pizza was HUGE! It’s a 16-inch pizza piled high with fresh veggies and it tasted divine. I actually ended up cutting it in half, baking one half and freezing the other. I invited my best friend over- a girl who appreciates her veggie pizza- and we split it for lunch the next day. I figured if I ate 1/4 of the pizza it was around 230 calories. A very tasty 230 calories. Sometimes when I eat low-calorie meals I don’t feel satisfied afterward or I feel like I’m sacrificing flavor. This was just as good as (ok BETTER than) any regular thin crust pizza and it made a great, satisfying lunch. I figure if I was having it for dinner I would have been hungry enough to eat half of the pizza and even that would have only been around 460 calories. Which is pretty cool considering the amount you could be consuming with other pizzas. Next I’ll need to try one of the other low-calorie options, maybe a BLT at 170 calories or the Hawaiian at 200 a slice? If you don’t want a whole pie you can get just a slice for only $3.75.

Anyway, I just want to say thank you Streetza for bringing #fitmke pizza into my life. I love having the opportunity to support local businesses and stay healthy at the same time.

RIght now you can find the Streetza truck most nights and Sunday afternoons around the corner of Water Street and Juneau. You can also tweet your order to them @streetzapizza or just to say hi and find out where they will be heading next.
